But i recently tried it again, and with a little help from my co-worker’s friend (who is obviously a professional tie-dyer ;) ), I was able to finally make this shirt! My camera didn’t do it justice, but if you recognize the color combination, I applaud you. I’m thinking about making a small line of Royalty t-shirts that are hand-dyed and silk screened. Just an idea. :)

MANIC MONDAY :: Yes it is official my dears, I am now available...

MANIC MONDAY :: Yes it is official my dears, I am now available on Instagram—@misssea_lion. As of now, I have a handful of what I would call “test photos,” just to get a feeling for this social media. I have to say, even though I fought it for as long as I did due to privacy terms and this article by Gala Darling, I am very in love with the whole idea with Instagram. My favorite feature, absolutely, is the Geo-tagging and mapping your photography. For inspiring travelers, such as myself, this is an internet sensation and blessing.

Although some photographers will fight it still and state that applications like this allow every “avaerage joe” the notion that they are just as good of photographers as the professionals. Personally I applaud these applications because it allows for creativity to blossom a little easier for those who constantly tell themselves “I can’t”; these applications can be an open door for individuals to find a true passion and work towards something more. But I will also say, there is an extent that is reached and a level must be acknowledged and left to the true professionals—regarding those who they, themselves, are not passionate for the art.

Beyond this, I would like to use social media platforms, such as Instagram and Twitter, for experiments and Projekts. I’ve been storming around with ideas such as Kat Von D’s “Sketch A Day,” or branching out on my Worn Out Wednesdays and cataloging an outfit a day. There was also the idea of taking photographs on Instagram and lacing them with lines of poetry I would publish on Twitter—but to avoid the over-working it on two platforms, I think I will just publish both via Instagram and have it feed through to my Twitter.

As always, expect some MORE exciting creativity to be feeding through and shared.

The Friday Fix

The Friday Fix:

Wooo! It really was a lot of fun. My client gave me full creative independence with this poster, and only passed along a few photos and the proper information that needed to be shared. After meeting her, I feel I was able to capture her personality as well as the essence of the performance within this advertisement. I was really able to explore my designing in ways that could be a signature or staple to me. She was very ecstatic to see the final piece, which in turn made me happy and motivated to continue pushing forward.

For anyone interested, the performance is called Passing and is choreographed by Melanie Calhoun. It will be held Sunday, May 5th at 2:00pm and 5:00pm in Slippery Rock University’s West Gym Dance Studio. Admission is FREE, and a reception will be held after each performance.

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: The Accessory.
I have a small confession...

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: The Accessory.

I have a small confession of an odd habit of mine I’m beginning to notice. For some reason, I am never FULLY satisfied with the jewlery I purchase. Of course I fall in love with it at the store, but when I get home I start to brew these fantastical ideas to make it better… more me? Let’s this necklace for example. These three geometric beads are originally sold on a rather cheap silver chain at American Eagle for $15.99. I didn’t realize my dissatisfaction of the chain until I put it on—and then I thought… what about gold?! So I took a gold chain that once belonged to my grandmother and laced these beads on respectively. Personally I think the beads read better, and the piece is obviously more fitting to me. A waste of $15.99? Perhaps. But I also think that the unique personalization I can give a piece/purchase is a an achievement of my creativity and satisfaction.

MANIC MONDAY :: Just a reminder of something you probably...

MANIC MONDAY :: Just a reminder of something you probably already know.

Sometimes it takes a while to realize the situation you are in, and other times you knew all along but may not have wanted to admit it—in this case, hoping for the better. Either way, now you are aware. So what now? It may seem redundant but go ahead and finalize that pros and cons list you’ve been keeping secret to yourself. There’s nothing better the assessing both sides of the situation and becoming proactive with thorough study and review. Take the difficult situations life can throw at you and learn from them, whether for the present or the future, a little extra knowledge never hurt. Based on your findings you can make an informed decision in how you would like to progress forward.

I recently dealt with a situation that I knew I had to get out of. I realized that there was no point in being over-stressed and miserable for something I wasn’t getting much out of. I also realized (and reminded myself) that sometimes you have to put yourself first, because chances are, no one else will. And there is nothing wrong with that—it is invigorating to be your own anchor and ship! So, after much consultation this weekend, I finally asked myself, why am I supporting an organization that won’t support me? And then my decision seemed so easy.

Change is OK, it only allows for more opportunities to learn. And let’s be honest, there’s no time in life to be so consistently miserable. Never allow others the privilege of bringing you down. Or as I like to remind myself, if I’m going to be miserable it’s going to be on my own account. ;)

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: Spring has sprung, and so has your color...

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: Spring has sprung, and so has your color pallet! But there’s no need to lose your edge—add some black leather accessories to class-up the kid colors. This is a great way to make those wild-child colors we dread sporting a little more chic.

The amount of work I plowed through last week was unimaginable. What was even more so was the fact that it all got done! After taking last weekend as full-out studio time I made some wonderful progress with my sculptures. They are coming along wonderfully, and I only continue to get more ideas for them (thank gawd I have till then end of the semester for these). Once Monday finally came around I knew it was time to put those projects on hold and take the reins of the anticipated week that laid ahead. The Research Symposium was a wonderful experience and it was nice to be able to show and explain to my friends and volunteers the purposes for the exercises I conducted. Wednesday I attended a networking event held by my university, in which I met a wonderful Alumni who is currently a freelance graphic designer—let’s just say nothing but good things could come of this. I met with my first client Thursday (so it’s official, The Sea Lion Projekts is a running business ready to take on any projekt!). She very much liked the poster I designed for her dance performances—more to be share in Thursday’s Daily Design. On top of everything, I felt like I was running for presidential election as I campaigned for my t-shirt graphic to be the Official SRU White Out Shirt—the radio station glory wall was only one method of advertisement, but I loved it. A big shout out to Cory Forrest, Brandon Riggs, Connie Briggs, and Helene Caniac for helping me push the campaigning out there! And thank you to all who voted, it is very much appreciated—your support means tons! Finally, Friday I left for a small weekend trip to Detroit were much fun was had and needed. After talking graffiti and street art with a fellow student Friday night, we had the privilege to see a real life Banksy the following day! Life coincidences are always amusing.

Beyond all the hustle and bustle of last week, so many good things came out of those opportunities I took advantage of, and for that I am very grateful.

As far as this week, Tuesday night is the opening reception for Kaleidoscope Festival: Student Art Exhibition, in which I have a few pieces being exhibited.

Cheers to the ever-moving reality of life!

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: Let’s be honest guys, the SGA...

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: Let’s be honest guys, the SGA Bookstore is in desperate need of something new, fresh, and unique to it’s line of apparel. So it comes as no surprise that when I finally had the chance to grab a cup at Caribou I fell in love. Firstly, the store’s atmosphere is homey and much on the artistic side. Of course the colors capture my heart. And I am obsessing over their tagline, “Life is short. Stay awake for it.” Oh yeah, one more thing, their coffee is delicious! I ordered my self a Biscotti Mocha with dark chocolate and I nearly died of caffeine goodness. But talking strictly design, I am really torn between the clean-cut and modern Starbuck’s products and Caribou’s heart-warming and touch of cutesy to their cups. What do you think?

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: So let’s say San Fran was dating N....

WORN OUT WEDNESDAY :: So let’s say San Fran was dating N. York C. and out of nowhere had an affair with Anna Polis… I would say this set pretty much captures how that heart would look—fashionably, of course. Continue to enjoy Spring’s pastels while warm and comfy in long sleeved items of neutral tones.

Since Tuesdays are my looongest days, I have declared those my “off days.”

MANIC MONDAY :: Progress, progress, progress. Yes, so much progress. Here goes round three! Haha. But really, if you haven’t noticed I have recently taken a small break from posting. I certainly have notice because there’s a new layout to Tumblr and the posting opportunities available have a slightly different set-up. Haha. Why the break you may ask? Some reevaluation has been greatly needed. Although I am proud to say with some priorities straightened I am back and with full force! Your designer, blogger, and student, Miss Sea Lion has lots of news to share!

First and foremost, I have taken the initiative and have finally created, started, and launched on various social media platforms The Sea Lion Projekts, my official creative services business. Through this I offer a small business as a freelance designer, open to the public for branding, advertising, and other general graphic design needs. You can now give me a like on Facebook, a +1 on Google+, a follow on Pinterest, and oh yeah, check out my portfolio and resume on Behance! (All of which can be found as links in the side bar under “My Pages.”)

So what does this mean for The Sea Lion Projekts of Tumblr? More updated posts of course! I’m planning to still keep the general set up from Manic Mondays, Worn Out Wednesdays, and my music posts will be the same but are switched to Fridays to coincide with my radio show, The Friday Fix. New weekly posts being added—so far I only have Tuesday’s Daily Design and have yet to decide on a Thursday theme. All is subject to change of course, only to better fit needs and purpose. Still, there will be plenty posts filled with fabulous things here on The Sea Lion Projekts.

As a final note, can I just say that I am currently enjoying the spring weather that is starting to finally peek out from behind the clouds? The sun’s vitamin D is much need and I greatly appreciate it as it serves as wonderful motivation, obviously.

Alright, cheers to the ambition that fuels success.
